Curried Chick Peas

  • 1 Large onion chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger root
  • 8 Cloves garlic, minced
  • 7 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp Teja cumin seeds
  • 2 1/4oz Tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Teja turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp Teja chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Teja masala
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 3 cans Chick peas (396ml)


Sauté in oil, onion, garlic and ginger. Add cumin seeds, cook for 1 min. Add tomato paste, cook for another min. Salt, tumeric, chilli powder and masala can now be added. Cook for another 2 min., stirring constantly. Add water (to make paste). Drain chick peas and add to above mixture. Simmer for 10 min. on medium heat. Add 1 1/2C water. Cook for another 10 min. Garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves. Serve with chapatis or basmati rice.
